KXAM Afternoon Show Spats

Maybe I'm one of the 50 people left that listen to KXAM between the hours of 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., but I still think it's the best show on at that time slot - and it is entertaining that Terry and Les still frequently phone in to express takes and are given ample air time. Today, Les and Debra got into a spat - Debra flaunting that she has crossing guards as friends, and Les retorting that he has Jews for friends - how the talk drifted to that from the Scottsdale teacher sick-out, I don't quite remember, but it ended funny in Les proclaiming that Debra was supposed to end his call as his point had been made, but Debra replied that she was still waiting for a "point to be made". At the termination of the call, Debra remarked that Les was anti-semitic ... I think that Les took offense at being asked if he was a crossing guard. Another caller backed up Debra, against the "intellectually Les" caller ...

In the KXAM morning time slot, I caught just the end of the Arizona Sunrise show, but it seems that there is a little friction between the hosts - Kim Laurie and John Dayl. They were debating women having the right to vote, and please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I heard John say that giving women the right to vote was a mistake, although he was not against women voting ... Anyway, Kim's show ending comments seemed to indicate that John stepped out early in lieu of responding to Kim's heated arguments ... Again, I missed most of the show, so I could be misconstruing this - however, I have noticed increased tension between the two hosts, which isn't necessarily a harmful thing if it is harnessed properly ...

KXAM is a wacky station - I'm rooting for them, though, and given the poor quality of the talk programming on the other stations, it is refreshing to have alternatives. I listen to all of the talk shows in the valley - local, national, even Rush Limbaugh occasionally. I think I'll compose a show by show roadmap and review soon. KTAR is the pits except for Leibowitz show, I listen to the crackpots on KFYI which is more than can be said for the likes of Femino and Westmoreland. NPR is cool but the time delay and it seems a lot of the guests are mere lobbyist and/or government voices that give no true insight into issues.
