White supremacists infiltrating law enforcement?

A breaking local story, Yavapai Deputy arrested on drug charges, omits much meatier detail.
Justin Dwyer, 39, a former leader in the neo-Nazi organization Aryan Nations

Followed by some even juicier revelations:

The Sheriff’s Office was aware at the time of Dwyer’s hiring of his former status with Aryan Nations.

And why haven't these questions been directed at the Yavapai County Sheriff's office:

Can anyone explain to me what the hell a sheriff -- particularly one with a jurisdiction, such as any in Arizona, where deputies will be in frequent contact with racial minorities -- is doing hiring a neo-Nazi goon (which is precisely what Justin Dwyer is)?

I mean, at a bare minimum, it displays incredibly poor judgment hiring a person of Dwyer's known character -- which has played out in fairly predictable fashion -- for a sensitive position of authority like sheriff's deputy.

But what kind of message is this sheriff sending to the minority communities in his jurisdiction, hiring known racist thugs?

Proof again, that racism is still prevalent in America.

Worse, why are the local news outlets not covering this aspect of this case, deliberately removing those pertinent details?

Comments

Justin Dwyer is not a neo-Nazi goon.

He was involved with the Aryan Nations in his early 20s and quickly saw the error in his ways. It has been nearly 20 years since his involvement in this group and he holds no racist beliefs.

Unfortunately this will follow him for the rest of his life because people like you are unable to understand that someone can change for the better.

Forgiveness is a noble concept.
Astro Boy, has Justin Dwyer ever publicly recanted and repented for this period of his life?

According to the cited articles, this doesn't appear to be the case.

And if he turned over a "new leaf" there is still an issue on why a law enforcement entity would hire an individual with a questionable past. Are gang members and other perps filtered out when it comes to hiring deputies? If so, why is it OK for militant white supremacists to hire on, then?
Calchas, Justin has repented privately for his involvement with Aryan Nations but to my knowledge has not done so in any public forum. He is embarassed and ashamed of being swept into something that he never believed in.

The rebelliousness of youth that so often leads many astray led Justin down the contrary path to the norms of his California hometown. The ultimate thumbing of his nose at the status quo.

It is not OK for law enforcement entities to hire militant white supremacists. Apparently Justin proved that he was not one.
You obviously don't know Justin Dwyer very well. He was VERY actively involved in Aryan Nations in Hayden Lake Idaho.
I had dated this guy back in December and he was a little weird, I thought. But I had no idea that he was a Neo-Nazi. I just found out 3-4 months ago. Oh, my gosh!! Wow!! I guess I'm not dating anyone from this town ever again...SHEEESH!!

I personally know Justin Dwyer. No one who knew him would have ever guessed that he had this type of background. He has made a VERY big mistake in his life and he will be paying for it for a long time to come.
I too dated Justin for a short period of time recently. I was never aware of any involvement with any Aryan groups. I was never made aware of any ideas or beliefs that he had that were racist in any way shape or form. He was always a complete gentleman and always looked swell in a suit. I am truly sorry to see him in the mess he is in now.
you people are FUCKED UP nobodys perfect hes nothing like he used to be hes a good guy straight up
I was in a band with the guy. Our drummer was Mexican. He was the only guy that knew about Justin's past. Justin told him out of respect and repentance. Our drummer never breathed a word until Justin fucked up. He got caught with drugs, and will suffer the rest of his life for it. But he is a white supremacist no more. Hey Jensen, if your penis is small enough to still want to fight, I'll take your dumb ass up on it.
JESUS CHRIST!!!! LITERALLY!!! There are only a few comments above that should even be there! I dated Justin when he was 19 yrs old. I have known him since I was 15!!! I am 37 now, that's 22 years! He is not actively, or at least was not actively involved with Aryan Nation up until his arrest. He was involved during his youth, and into being a young adult. But I can guarantee that he moved away, to get away from it. People in the United States are so quick to pass judgement on others, and they forget the root of our country is religion, and the root of religion is that god will decide your fate and choose to forgive once you die! It is no man or womans place to pass judgement upon anyone for their past. The courts decide on peoples crimes, and they are the final decision makers. Its not illegal to be racist... be it right or wrong.... it is in many of us... its not just caucasians that are racist....hispanic, black, asian, you name it, there is someone among their race that is racist against another!
Justin was a good guy, I have knoen him for along time. Allthough I did not agree with everything that he believed in, there was good in him, and that was what I saw. I promise you that he was no longer racist, if you still don't believe you can go fuck yourself!!!
I too knew Justin when he was younger, as did most of my brothers. He is a few years older than me. Hell, I remember him giving me rides home when I was stranded, and telling me I should behave more responsibly. I'm also half Jewish by birth, and Justin refused to acknowledge me after he adopted his neo nazi beliefs. So I have every right not to like the guy. That said, I was also a punk when I was younger. Oh well; live and learn. It's easy to find some sort of dogma to live by when you're lost. That's no excuse for what the guy was, but I know I'm a hell of alot different now, so I don't doubt that he is too. That was a long time ago. Some of the most vocal opponents of racist organizations are former members. Others, I suppose, just want to put such things behind them. Is that so hard to believe? It's easy to criticize when your skeletons aren't outed for everyone to see. Justin, if you're reading this, good luck, and I wish you well.

Justin worked for me many years ago in NV at a winery. He was raised in a very respected family. I have to say I was surprised to see him in TIME magazine with the caption identifying him as something like "white man" I am sure that is wrong but very close. Good picture though. Since I know or have known him I feel like it is appropriate to say give the guy a break! Everyone makes mistakes. I wish him the best. As a past friend if he needed something I would try to help him. He has a large heart. And a great sense of humor. All of you that have written in lets hope none of your skeltons come out of your closets. People change and no one is perfect.
Good luck Justin. Dianne
Yeah he sure changed, for the worse, doing coke with his son & other minors & watching pornography, the truth always comes to light & your past will rise up to bite you in the butt if you continue to show disregard for people, and I don't believe that God is the only true judge, judges are true judges, otherwise swine like this would be destroying every aspect of human descency left in this society
As i said before . . . Is is not a crime to be a racist! Everyone makes mistakes . . .What he is in trouble for now involving the drugs and his son he will pay for . . but his past is not what was or is in question here. Things happen . . . We learn and move on. . . He is not in trouble right now for anything to do with racism, so justin learned something! And thanks for the last opinion . . But maybe a little soul searching and bible thumping is needed . . . God is the one true judge of our actions . . . And the court is a babysitter until that time comes!
