John Gambadoro and Mark Asher have decided to end their 10-year run as afternoon sportstalk-show hosts for KGME (910 AM)

Gambadoro, Asher end 10-year run on XTRA 910

10 years is an eternity in sports talk radio. A feat not to be shrugged at.

The two made the announcement as they signed off the air Friday afternoon, saying they wanted to pursue other opportunities.

After the show, Asher said the two had a clause in their contract that allowed them to opt out.

“We just kind of felt it was time to move on and explore other options,” Asher said. “It was a very tough decision.”

Maybe they just need a little break before dashing off to a competing station in the local market.

Never was a big fan of Gambo and Ash show, but for a great while, they were the only game in town, for sports talk radio. Others come and go, but they've been etched in that weekday afternoon slot for what seemed to be a permanent basis.

No doubt these guys end up on the new all sports talk radio dial. They are smart and looked at the writing on the wall. That station will be all the buzz, not to mention the flagship for sports talk radio. As soon as they announced the all sports station, most of my buddies already called the move. Bottom line is they are the highest rated local guys. There is no way that KTAR wasn't going to make a play for these guys. They are about to get a hefty pay raise and a new home come January.
lets hope KTAR happens fast, one week of the new programing i am listening to country? not so bad but i need all my eggs in basket ironed out weekly and those guys did it everyday. it

These guys are so full of crap. Gambo needs to move to New York (but won't because he can't hack it), and Asher, though tolerable, will be lost without his dancing monkey.

They have very little to offer other than off-the-wall criticisms of everything that isn't New York and attempts to say things that are so contraversial and ignorant that people listen only to hear a demonstration of ignorance and idiocy.
What a lose for Phoenix Sports radio.
Not since KGME let Vince Murotta and his crew go, had I found a show on sports radio that was worth listening too... Bickley & MJ have a good show but, I hope they see the writing on the wall. Clear Channel seems to want the advertising dollars, but not the talent to keep people listening.
I go away for a few days and come back to this news? Even with Gambo being a yankee fan I did still like the duo. Thanks again Ash for announcing Santana Moss as the AL Cy Young winner... I am going to miss the fun.
They are a good listen and I hope that they land in that open 2-6 spot on KTAR.
Gambo had the capacity to make most of us look a lot smarter - what a doofus. Mark I'll miss - John needs to pack up his double-wide and head east.
Gambo and Ash were a staple on my radio for nearly the entire 10 years. Hope they return strong as ever, and soon!!
I agree that Gambo and Ash will be missed. One week of the other guy and I long for the dynamic duo. Since Mike Golic left for ESPN, they have been the best sports show in town. Hopefully they will be back on KTAR, SOON.
They Suck
Gambo was the downfall, Ash was the fall guy. Sorry, Mark, but The valley is better off without yankee boy. I hope he went back to New York.
I can't get over my vision of GAMBO in a NASCAR jumpsuit with the logo of every one of sponsors that he endorsed in his 10 years on the air!!
Typical New Yorker with that big YANKEE chip on his shoulder.
I hate the Yankees but he does have that great New York swagger--And Mark can spend more time with that gorgeous Bridget!!!
well this really stinks!!
gambo could be overbearing and "only his opinion counts" , its the ny'er in him and mark was always the diplomat!!
one of their best qualities as a team was they could laugh at themselves!!

their replacement is a "joke", to use his mmost famous word. i will not be tuning in for that 1-3 slot or whatever time slot jacobs is holding down. how many times is he going to get fired for poor ratings anyway?
Not missed yet, but Bruce Jacobs and whoever follows him aren't a good replacement yet! Giving it a whirl for now, though! Not much else to listen to!
Bickley & MJ are okay, Asher and Gambo were just alright, but overall Arizona Sports Talk is not very good no matter what station. In Denver, they have real sports talk from their local shows. They are consistently bringing local sports stars, past and present, they have real relationships with the players and coaches, and they always make every show and topic interesting. I rarely remember any local sports guys calling in and being interviewed on a consistent basis. On 910, I hear more interviews with out of town guests, coaches, writers and hosts from other cities who have real teams and support for their clubs. It is sad.

Looks like they are on 6-9pm slot on KTAR now.
Matt, no they are on KTAR but still in the 1p-6p time slot.
